ZARTH by Zama Mathe: Durban Fashion Fair Invited Designer

Zarth Designs was founded in 2009, by owner and head designer, Zama Mathe.

From working in a bank to designing garments and becoming an invited designer for the 2012 Vodacom Durban July is quite an unusual jump, but for Mount Edgecombe resident and Durban designer, Mathe, she knew fashion was her calling.

Mathe says she has always been quite artistic and good with her hands and after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at University, to have something substantial behind her, she moved onto the creative side of things and put her time into fashion designing.

Mathe has no formal educational background in this field. “I learn as I go along,”she says, which has clearly proven successful.

Zarth is now a luxury brand that is distinguished by its stylistic originality combined with the superior sartorial content of its creations. The strong identity of the Zarth brand has evolved over the years while always remaining faithful to its inherent standards. An unmistakable style, the expression of unconventional luxury which, season after season, combines strong innovation with the powerful African flavour of its origin.

Mathe summarizes her style of design as “bespoke designs for the effluent clientele that enjoy ultimate style. The styles are ready to wear across scenarios,” she adds.
