Simphiwe Dana, Asa and Buika come together in harmony for a symphonic experience
Press Release:
Johannesburg, South Africa (24
November, 2016) At a press conference held today, Simphiwe
Dana told guests that The Simphiwe Dana Symphony Experience is poised to be an
emotional experience that will move members of the audience to another
world.
The Simphiwe Dana Symphony Experience is a realization of a dream Dana had almost nine years ago. In a MIAGI - Music is a great Investment production funded by the National Lotteries Commission, Dana is finally able to see her dream come to fruition.
Joined by two internationally acclaimed artistes whose roots are based in Africa: the divine voice of Asa (Nigeria) and the emotionally haunting voice of Concha Buika (Equitorial Guinea), the concert is set to move the audience off their feet.
“I believe in the power of music as the vehicle that connects us all. I fell in love with the voices of these women some years ago and I knew that someday I would work with them. We have a similar disposition and our energies connect very well. The audience is in for a treat,” says Dana.
Excited about having finally fulfilled her lifelong dream to one day perform in South Africa, Buika thanked Dana for affording her the opportunity to turn her dream to reality.
“Growing up in Spain I have always been teased about my blackness. White people didn’t understand my blackness. I am so happy to be here and to be addressing an audience of people who look like me. Saturday night is going to be a dream,” Buika said.
The Nigerian sensation Asa is no stranger to South Africa. Having been here three years ago, she expressed her excitement about having to perform for the South African audience again, at Dana’s invitation.
“Simphiwe is a friend of mine and a sister. When that invitation came through, I could not say no. I had to be here. It’s going to be amazing. We’ve all been learning each other’s music, which we will perform together on Saturday,” she said.
Presented by MIAGI, the Simphiwe Dana Symphony Experience, in partnership with BET and Kaya FM, will see Africans from all parts of the continent and the Diaspora coming together in solidarity of vision for the African cause, as Dana dreamt it nine years ago.
A 60-piece orchestra, a 30-piece choir and a dance troupe will add an audio-visual spectacle to this experience.
The Simphiwe Dana Symphony Experience is brought to you in partnership with BET and Kaya FM.
Tickets to this musical feast are priced between R350 – R500 and are available via Computicket.
