There has been a lot of drama withThe Royalty Soapie Awards since they last happened at the Durban ICC in 2015.They since took a break with a lot of media coverage, which some were speculations as we have not had an official comment from the founder, actress Bawinile Ntshaba. Now, on its 3rd installment, Royalty Soapie Awards are coming to Gauteng with major sponsors such as Department of Arts & Culture, Gauteng Province Economic Development, Gauteng Province Art, Culture and Recreation, NEDBANK, BET and BLK OPL.

The Awards are set to take place at Emperor's Palace, the place of dreams. The event red-carpet promises to be a dream, with all the industry personalities who will show off their designer creations, and sure they will make an effort to honour BEYOND THE GLITZ AND GLAMOUR as the theme for the evening.

Bawinile who recently made headlines for delivering an impressive performance as Mamngadi on Mzansi Magic's series, The Herd commented about the industry and the impact of South African stories play in a global stage and congratulated the winners. This is what she said;

I am always filled with great admiration for those who dedicate their lives to the television industry. But never more so, than when I see the outstanding work of the nominees honoured here today. This industry is hard. Everything takes time, perseverance and determination. Well done to all for going the extra mile. I am so proud of the authentic South African stories being told in our country right now. The significant nominations this year show a tremendous progression in inclusion, diversity and excellence. Every year, locally produced television just gets better and better. Compared to global standards, South Africa has a small television industry, but it is an extremely powerful one. Our stories make an impact on our continent and internationally. My hope is that we continue to make great strides in 2018”. – Winnie Ntshaba Managing Director of the Royalty Soapie Awards.

This unique awards ceremony, is the only one in the country that pays homage to South Africa’s beloved daily soaps and telenovela’s.
The list of nominees honoured some of the usual suspects and some unexpected surprises. Isibaya and Isithembiso led the nominee nods with 18 nominations followed by Skeem Saam and Isidingo with 11 nominations.

This year the added excitement of a public vote for all performance categories and for Most Popular Soap will bring the viewers into play as they show their loyalty to their favourite soap stars. For the Lead Role, Supporting Character categories and the Most Popular Soapie of the Year, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite performers and decide who the winners should be.
