Yanga & Thato To Battle It Out At The Idols SA Finale & Top Three Performances Recap!
Finalists: Thato & Yanga |
Yanga, who has been consistent
throughout the competition
received a standing ovation from the audience
and two of the judges for her deeply
emotive performance of Scars (All Over Me),
her newly released single.
Following the dramatic exit of King B on Idols SA last week Sunday, tonight another hopeful, Thando was voted off. This means ladies favorite, Thato and vocalist Yanga are to go face to face at the finale on Sunday the 18th live at Carnival City. Unfortunately, only one contestant will be crowned the winner of Idols SA season 14. Regardless of how amazing one is, it is up to the viewers at home to vote for who they believe deserves to take the big prize.
Tonight, live at the State Theater before the elimination, each contestant had to perform their newly released single which was recorded abroad as immediately after the top three was announced last Sunday, they had to get their bags from the Idols house and dash to the airport for Dubai. While in Dubai, each contestant recorded their singles and rehearsed for their performances for tonight. Before travelling back to South Africa, Capitec made sure there was enough cash in their bank accounts to shop until they drop in Dubai as seen on television.
Even though it was farewell for Thando, before her departure she got to perform her newly-recorded single called Wasting Time, which she performed live and is already available on most digital platforms. Also tonight's live show was more of a celebration than a sad farewell. The Top 10 made a surprise return to the stage to memorialise the record-breaking 110 million votes garnered over the season so far.
Mzansi's chosen season 14 top two, Yanga and Thato also debuted their first-ever singles tonight and tomorrow morning will be shooting their music videos for their singles all courtesy of Ford.
Yanga received a standing ovation from the audience and two of the judges for her deeply emotive performance of Scars (All Over Me), while Thato’s single, Blow By Blow, an up-tempo breakup tune where he seeks to understand what happened to the love, didn't receive much love from the judges and audience. Somizi didn’t think the song suited him and went on to say was tasteless.
The vibrant Tsonga rap princess Sho Madjozi, performed her hit Huku, which brought a beautiful energy to the audience and Thato got to redeem himself with his performance of If by Davido which he closed off the show with as his nely recorded single Blow By Blow wasn't a hit to the judges, audience and social media.
We also spotted actor Mothusi Maxwell who plays Moreri on The Throne, television presenter Kuhle Adams and actor/media personality Chris Mocks in the audience.
Tune in on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161 on Dstv) at 17h00 to find out who will be crowned Idols South Africa season 14. For now, vote for your favourite contestant to see them take it all at the finale.
