David Mashabela Launches Podcast to Celebrate Radio Legends
Hear stories behind your favourite storytellers
Mashabela Creatives has announced the launch his Kind David studio and his Radio Legends Podcast – a gripping and
authentic 1-hour talk show aimed at celebrating radio legends in South Africa
through a series of interviews.
The launch and demonstration of this podcast will
be hosted at Melrose Arch where David Mashabela – founder of Mashabela
Creatives, and ‘radio’s biggest fan’ – will unveil the first two episodes of
the Radio Legends Podcast, which will be live for viewers or listeners across
the country from the 28th February 2020 at 18h00.
South Africa’s radio listeners are presented with
a rare chance of listening to their favorite presenters as they give them a
glimpse into their life stories. Grant
Shakoane and Chilli
Masinga are the first legends whose life stories
will be shared with the listeners through this platform.
According to Mashabela, radio presenters’ stories
have remained untold until now. “This platform affords radio fans an
opportunity to enter into their favorite radio legends’ space – hear stories
behind our storytellers. The interviews reflect on legends’ life stories, how
they became radio presenters, their views on life, love and everything else. It
is time to give people who have hosted and continue to host some of the most
captivating radio shows a chance to tell their stories. Not only will they
share their most memorable experiences on air, they also talk about their
lives, reflect on their journeys on radio and personal roadmaps that led them
to the microphone.”
Nobody can deny the rich history of South African
radio, and this Podcast is a way of documenting and preserving this history,
and sharing it with the masses. “People
need to hear how insightful and interesting our storytellers are. With a long
list of incredible radio broadcasters in our country, it is an injustice to
ourselves to not have an archive of this story of radio. This podcast series is
one way of creating this archive, one presenter at a time,” explains Mashabela.
Set in a make-shift radio studio, the Radio
Legends’ Podcast is recorded in such a way that you can watch it and/ or listen
to it. Some of the legends that will be featured in this
podcast series are: Jeremy Mansfield, Bertha Charuma, Ben Dikobe, Jenny
Crwys-Williams, Hector Mathabe, Koos
Radebe, Kenny Maistry, John Robbie, Paul Rude Boy Mnisi, Tom Mphatsoe, Tim
Modise, Thabo Mokwele, Penny Lebyane, Seipati Twasa Seoke, Treasure Tshabalala,
Nothemba Madumo, Lance Rothschild, Lucky Ntuli, Lee Kasumba, and Thuso Motaung.
