LAUGHTER FOR A GOOD CAUSE WITH COMEDY CENTRAL'S BRAND NEW SHOW!
Famous Last Words: Jeannie D
What do TV presenters Jeannie Dand Khanyi Mbau, rapper and Idols SA host ProVerb; celebrity chef and MasterChef SA judge Benny Masekwameng; media personalitiesKuli Roberts and John Robbie; Isidingo star Robert Whitehead and former Bafana Bafana player Mark Williams have in common?
They are all about to be turned into stand-up comedians thanks to help from some comic heavyweights and Comedy Central’s brilliant new show Famous Last Words, which debuts on the channel (DStv 122) on Monday, August 14, at 21h00. Not only is it going to provide 10 weeks of riveting television, it is all for a good cause! There will be a Famous Last Words Gala Event – open to the public with stand-up performances by the comics and their celebrity mentees – with proceeds going to the Smile Foundation.
The comedians – Jason Goliath, John Vlismas, Casper de Vries, Rob van Vuuren, Nina Hastie, Kagiso Lediga, Mpho Popps and Joey Rasdien – will spend time with their celebrity partners and step into their psyche to find the funny in their everyday lives with hilarious and sometimes painful results. This will enable them to coach their protégé with the goal of doing their first ever five-minute stand-up comedy set in front of a live audience.
The first episode of Famous Last Words (Monday, August 14) hasJeannie D taking Jason Goliath into her glamourous world while showing him just how much wax is required when your body is your business (ouch!). In the episode on Monday, August 21, John Robbie’s Irish heritage rubs off on Kagiso Lediga with a jig and a beer while Joey Rasdien learns what it takes to be a top-class footballer (Monday, August 28) courtesy of Mark Williams.
There’s plenty of hilarity (and music) on Monday, September 4, at 21h00, when ProVerb pulls Casper de Vries into a cypher for a rap battle; Khanyi Mbau gets John Vlismas pouting in a photo-shoot with a python (Monday, September 11); Chef Benny Masekwameng whipsRob van Vuuren’s culinary skills into shape while drag-racing (Monday, September 18); Kuli Roberts takes Nina Hastie to a nursery school in search of her mothering instincts (Monday, September 25) and Robert Whitehead (famous as Mzansi's scariest villain Barker Haines) shows Mpho Popps how an actor prepares for a stunt plane (Monday, October 2).
In turn, the comedians will have to share their knowledge and turn the celebrities into stand-up comedians!
If you want to catch all the action then make sure you book tickets for the Famous Last Words Gala Event. Hosted by Comedy Central in support of Smile Foundation, the gala event takes place in Johannesburg on October 4. Each of the comedians will perform a 15-minute set followed by their protégé who will do a five-minute set.
The Best Of … Famous Last Words, with highpoints and funniest moments from the TV series, will be aired on Monday, October 9. You can then catch highlights from the gala event – for those who cannot make the live show – on Comedy Central on Monday, 16 October 2017.
Says Dillon Khan, Vice President Comedy Central VIMN Africa: “We are excited about this brand-new show which celebrates South African talent and is a Comedy Central original. The participants – both celebrities and comedians – are all well-known in their own right but taking them out of their comfort zones with Famous Last Words has produced some surprising and hilarious results that will have the public view them in a whole new light. We salute the celebrities who have been brave enough to take to the comedy stage and the comedians who have all got involved in helping us bring smiles, not just to the audiences, but to the youth that the Smile Foundation works to assist.”
Hedley Lewis, CEO Smile Foundation said; “We are humbled to have been chosen by Comedy Central as the beneficiary of this incredible initiative.
