My Kitchen Rules kicks off with tension, tears and taste-bud risks in Bloemfontein
On Sunday 13 August at 18:00 M-Net 101 will be turning up the heat with My Kitchen Rules South Africa, the channel’s brand new local reality cooking show based on the mega television hit from Australia. In the first episode, the cameras roll in Bloemfontein where two “besties”, working moms Leanne and Liz, have to put their 'best food forward' to impress the critics around the table.
This exciting format plays out in different stages, showcasing the cuisine of pairs of contestants from around the country. For the next five weeks, the first five pairs of contestants have to create an instant restaurant in their own homes where their food is scored by their rival contestants as well as celebrity chefs David Higgs and J’ Something. At the end of this round viewers will say goodbye to the pair with the lowest overall score. After that, we meet more pairs who will go through the same process and from there the action moves over to the My Kitchen Rules headquarters in Johannesburg where several challenges will determine which home cooks will continue to whip up delights that may take them all the way to the top of the competition.
How high will the ambitious Bloem Besties Leanne and Liz set the standard for the competition? Leanne is a perfectionist and Liz is adamant to show everyone that Bloemfontein should never be underestimated. But, as the judges point out, there are many risks involved with the dishes on their menu. When you’re working against the clock, so much more can also go wrong!
“Be prepared for some tension and tears,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity Lani Lombard. “The people around the table in My Kitchen Rules are all food fanatics and they’re also well aware of the fact that this is a competition.”
