Ace Your Way Back To Varsity With Spotify
Just because summer holidays are over
doesn’t mean the streaming has to be!
It’s back to school and Varsity vac is coming to an end, which means it’s back to reality for thousands of students across South Africa. It may be a slow start for many in trying to get back into the swing of things, but Spotify has some great ways to get you back on top of your game for the 2020 academic year.
Just because summer holidays are over doesn’t mean the streaming has to be! Spotify makes for a great study buddy, exercise partner, sleep aid, companion and so much more to keep you top of your game. This year, get serious about studying or take some time to unwind and destress just before your exams with the perfect playlist and easily share your favourite tracks with classmates.
Spotify has some great tips for back-to-study streaming:
1. Podcasts for all occasions
Continue learning outside the lecture hall with podcasts, and impress your lecturers with your newfound knowledge of world news and politics with The Daily podcast, where the world’s best journalists share the biggest news of our time. Or you can explore brand-new topics on Ologies with Alie Ward and wow the class with knowledge on questions everyone asks but never has the answers to. Click on “Browse” and the “Podcasts” in the Spotify app and explore a wide range of them, including many Spotify Originals.
2. Mind your language
So, you may have spent some of your summer break at French Toast Koffie Kafee in Harties, greeting the waiters with “Bonjour!” and daydreaming about the day you’ll finally be standing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. One problem, your knowledge of the French language ends at the hello and now you feel like you need to gain some foreign language skills. You can listen to podcasts of French language courses via Learn French to broaden your horizons or if you’d prefer to parlez-vous a different language check out the selection of language podcasts on Spotify.
3. Listen offline
We all know that campus Wi-Fi can be a little unstable, making it difficult to listen to your favourite playlists online. Don’t worry, with a Spotify Premium account, you can download your playlists onto your device and listen offline no matter where you are on campus – walking to lectures or working in the library.
4. Knowledge sharing through playlists
When Shakespeare said, “Neither a borrower nor a lender be,” he didn’t know Spotify was going to be a thing! With Spotify Codes, you can easily add friends' playlists and tracks to your profile as well as share your own. Spotify also now lets users add podcasts to track playlists. You and your friends can also use Spotify to create shared playlists and contribute their favourite tracks and (educational) podcasts.
5. Back to routine
Summer holidays often mean many late mornings and even later nights and now that school is back in session, you need a “responsible-person” sleep schedule. With Spotify's playlists of serene music to relax you before bed, you’ll be sawing logs in no time. You can find all the sleep-friendly playlists in the sleeping hub here.
6. Playlists for in-the-zone studying
Are you a person that requires a backdrop of 90s hip-hop to escape the world around you? Or maybe lyrics distract you and you study better with white noise or classical music? Spotify has playlists to suit your preference. The Spotify Focus Hub feature playlists such as Instrumental Study, Music for Concentration, Beats to Think To and more.
7. Boost Your Brain Power
Regular exercise is a great way to boost your mood and reduce stress. Alongside proper nutrition and a good night’s sleep, exercise also helps the brain to improve memory and thinking skills. It can jumpstart your brain for a marathon study session or help you destress during a stressful academic period. Spotify offers a wide catalogue of workout playlists, which can be found under “Browse” and “Moods & Genres.” Playlists include Zumba Beats, Rap Workout, Cardio and more. To get your zen on check out Sunrise Yoga, Hip-Hop Yogaand Cool Down.
8. Create your 2020 Anthem
Curate your personalised power playlist for 2020 with all the music that inspires, motivates and energises you, set your goals for the new year and get going!
And because Spotify knows what you like, when you get to the end of your playlists or albums, let Spotify generate new music, similar to what you just listened to, by allowing Autoplay (go to “Settings,” then go to “Playback” and choose “Autoplay”).
Download the Spotify app via the Android or iOS app store or by heading to www.spotify.com - to embed Spotify into a website - right click on any playlist, go to 'share' and copy embed code.
