Inside the #BudX #LabJHB Finale At Shine Studios In Johannesburg!

Just like everything else, #LabJHB series which was held in the buzzing suburb of Braamfontein at Shine Studios with incredible views of the iconic
Johannesburg skyline has come to an end!

The first ever #BudX #LabJHB series  came to an end with a comprehensive event like no other with an insightful panel discussion at the King’s Table with industry heavyweights that included Culoe De Song and DJ Tira as well as Budweiser Marketing  Manager, Estee Burger. All this in addition to the #BudX #LabJHB sets by Kyle Cassim, Floyd Lavine and Aero Manyelo. The unique event has made its mark and has been embraced dearly by the electronic dance music community in South Africa.

South African DJ Floyd Lavine is known for his African soul and rhythm influenced house sets, having a heavy presence in Berlin and Cape Town. Lavine is one of the creators of RISE, a Berlin-based record label throwing African-inspired events. RISE throws monthly events at Berlin’s Watergate club and other venues across Europe and Africa with headliners such as Black CoffeeOsunladeHenrick Schwarz and Culoe De Song. Lavine’s unique afro house tracks have been released on Get Physical Records, Watergate Records, Upon.you Records and RISE music. He has performed at Glastonbury Festival UKBerghain, Paris's Djoon, Rocking the Daisies in Cape Town and Oppiekoppie Festival.

With his home base in Gauteng, South Africa, Kyle Cassim has risen in popularity. Dropping his law degree to DJ full time, he has performed his vocal and uplifting house sets alongside well-known artists Franky Rizardo, Skitzofrenix and Jeff Doubleu. He has performed at Rage, Wonderland, H2O and many more festivals. Recently, he began a weekly Friday night show called “The Kyle Cassim Show” to share his “dirty, filthy, stanky house music” on the national radio station, 5FM.

Veteran, forward-thinking South African DJ and producer, Aero Manyelo reigns from Ivory Park in Johannesburg. His tracks such as “Mexican Girl” and “Mooki,” as well as his groovy, percussive sets have been supported by DiploDamian Lazarus, Dixon, and Oskido. He recently compiled and mixed the compilation “Body Language” including a remix from LA-based producer, Eagles & Butterflies. Manyelo has performed sets for both Boiler Room and Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF).

Marking a monumental step towards the reshaping of electronic dance music in Mzansi, #BudX #LabJHB was a five month long meet of visionaries and experts in the field from all over the world, from April to Septemebr 2019, in Jozi.

“Mzansi’s music scene is evolving, with an explosion of young talented producers across diverse subcultures. We were witness to this in our first edition of #BUDX #LabJHB and are now really thrilled to take this exciting platform to the next level through the refreshed format in it’s next season,” said Marketing Brand Manager Estee Burger. She adds, “At Budweiser, we believe in energizing young and emerging talents to break free from the ordinary life and seize the extraordinary opportunity to “Be A King” and #BUDX is reflective of the same principle. We are positive that BUDX will grow to be the ultimate music lab for artists to share knowledge/resources and collaborate on projects.”

Budweiser’s global commitment to dance music in the recent years has led to the beer brand’s increased involvement in the Mzansi music scene. The #LabJHB is one of the many music projects that Budweiser has flagged off in the recent past under its youth culture collaboration platform #BUDX
