New kid on the block ‘Sportsnation’ out to dazzle SA sports travel fans
As a BBB-EE Level 1 business they are extremely proud to be a 1st time Official Travel Agent for Rugby World Cup 2023 and cannot wait to bring the spirit of Africa to France.
Sportsnation has been unveiled as the latest young, fun and innovative Official Travel Agency (OTA) taking South African fans and the Spirit of Africa to France for Rugby World Cup 2023. The dynamic agency becomes the first South African black-owned OTA to be awarded travel rights for the rugby showpiece taking place from 8 September 2023 to 28 October 2023 across ten host cities in France.
The sports and incentive travel company staved off stiff competition from renowned agencies in the industry to make their mark as the face of a transforming travel landscape in South Africa.
Sportsnation’s strides in a competitive sports travel industry are deserved rewards for Managing Director, Malusi Mbambo, who has travelled the journey from the beginning as a small start-up agency to an international contender.
“Covid-19 hit everyone in the travel industry hard, including our small business -Sportsnation. On a cold winter evening in lockdown, I decided to grab our future by the horns and complete the tender to become an OTA for Rugby World Cup 2023. Fast forward 6-months. We have built up an experienced team and we are launching our packages for Rugby World Cup 2023 along with our new look and feel. I couldn’t be more excited!” Malusi Mbambo Founder and CEO of Sportsnation.
Sportsnation’s Journey
The company was established in 2012 by Mbambo, who is a former rugby player and avid sports fan. He has built a credible record of providing exclusive and memorable travel experiences from his team of professionals and sports enthusiasts.
“Sportsnation began out of a complete passion for sport. It started more as a digital sports magazine where we blogged and gave our opinion about sports and then this slowly turned into a sports travel business, taking fans to bucket list sporting events globally. We are a business for the fans, by the fans and in 2019 we did our first Rugby World Cup as a sales agent. In 2020 I was inspired to apply as an OTA and very thankful I did” Mbambo says.
The 10th edition of Rugby World Cup will see the Boks defend their 2019 title. South Africa’s win in Tokyo was witnessed by a passionate contingent of South African fans and supporters in Asia, many of whom will be eager to pack their bags after the travel limitations of the Covid-19 pandemic are lifted. The South Africans will be playing in the cities of Marseilles, Bordeaux and suburb of Paris, Saint-Denis for the pool stages of the tournament.
“It has always been important for Sportsnation to give back to the community. Since the business started it has been about the upliftment of sport in disadvantaged communities. Sportsnation has some exciting CSI projects in the mix that we will share further details about soon.” Curtis Nxumalo Sales Representative for Sportsnation.
Springbok Women’s player, Piwokuhle Nyanda, who is aspiring to represent the team at the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup, is excited at the prospect of having fans travelling to their favourite sporting events.
“As a professional sportswoman, playing in front of crowds and fans always gives you that extra bit of energy and lift. It is a pity that Covid-19 put a stop to having fans in the stadium but today’s launch of Sportsnation’s travel packages for the 2023 Rugby World Cup is a positive step in the right direction.”
