SABC1 'IT' GIRL, LERATO KGANYAGO FOR MZANSI PRIDE 2014
From the 1st till the 6th of December 2014, Africa will gather at its economic hub for the inaugural MZANSI Pride, to celebrate diversity in unity and challenge stigma. The event is expected to draw an audience coming from as far as Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the various South African provinces.
The brainchild of businessman and philanthropist, Cino Shearer, MZANSI Pride’s mandate is to ensure social cohesion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) persons into “main stream” society. This we will achieve by collaborating and working together with LGBTI organizations within the SADAC region.
Moreover, MZANSI Pride recognizes the need to champion the struggle for the rights of all LGBTI persons living in Africa and to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the thirty seven African states where homosexuality is deemed illegal in the eyes of the law. Mzansi Pride is also working with various LGBTI activists who are working on Lesbian Hate crimes happening in South Africa to educate the communities about LGBTI issues that will help eliminate such hatred.
Over thirty thousand people are expected to descend upon the city of Johannesburg to embrace their inner pride and participate in a colourful celebration of a unique and diverse community of persons that are pioneering in every sphere of society and have gained strides in reshaping public perception.
All activities will take place at Constitution Hill, Johannesburg South Africa. SABC 1's "It" girl Lerato Kganyago is confirmed as one of the MCs for the main event. Entertainment will be provided by SA's up and coming LGBTI arists such as Jacobs Jones, Blessing and established artists Amstel Maboa and more. More artists will be announced closer to the date.
The event have been sponsored by Constitution Hill, Cino Shearer Foundation, FTV International and EXIT Magazine and still negotiating with more sponsors.
