RECAP ON THE CHEVROLET FEATHER AWARDS JOURNEY

The event was founded in 2008 by Thami Kotlolo as a tongue-in-cheek, light-hearted celebration of high-profile individuals who, the organisers say, have inspired, scandalised and amused South Africa’s LGBTI community over the past year.

They have grown in a way that their media coverage cam be measured to the South African Music Awards & South African Sports Awards if not bigger.

They have done so much LGBTI visibility through mainstream media than any LGBTI organization funded to do the work.

With so much success since the past few years, a month ago, twitter came to a stand still with a group of women accusing The Chevrolet Feather Awards of  acknowledging the straight community using the name Lesbain, Gay, Bisexul, Transgender & Intersex people and doing nothing for the LGBTI individuals who live in the township and disadvantaged.

Feathers tried to explain what The Feathers are about but with no luck, the group flooded more questions, see below some of the questions:
1. Who get to be invited to the main event and why?
2. Who are the judges?, how do they qualify?
3. Why the use of posh venues? etc.

Which to me was total dump of the group to boycott, should you wish to address your concerns, you don't do it like they did. You come across as a sour loser and hater.

There are so many organizations in South Africa which are funded to do the activism work but they don't do it. Millions go to their cars, houses and girlfriends.
The activism have totally gone wrong in South Africa as we constantly fight among yourself instead of fighting homophobia, for our rights to be acknowledged and more things that affect us as the LGBTI community by working together.

Unfortunately the Chevrolet Feather Awards are going through and they are happening tomorrow (12 November 2015) and are by invite only, so there will be no need to ask where do the money the event makes on the day goes, which was a delusional question as this event have always been by invite only.

Next time, to avoid embarrassment, people musty do research before they participate in any debates.
