eNCA Hosts A Series Of Town Hall Debates

South Africa’s most-watched 24-hour news channel, eNCA is hosting a series of Town Hall Debates across the country, giving citizens the opportunity to engage with political leaders around critical issues. The Town Hall Debates form part of eNCA’s extensive political coverage, ahead of this year’s general elections in May.

The first debate was held earlier today in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town. eNCA anchor Michelle Craig hosted political leaders and residents at the Rocklands Community Hall, where Alan Winde (DA), Ebrahim Rasool (ANC), Melikhaya Xego (EFF), Patricia de Lille (GOOD) and Peter Marais (FF+) engaged with residents.

“The aim of these Town Hall Debates is to give South Africans an opportunity to raise their questions and concerns with the political parties, and give the politicians a real understanding of what the people want ahead of the general elections,” says eNCA’s head of output Jody Jacobs. “Political leaders will have the opportunity to address these concerns, clarify their positions on key issues and propose their solutions to the challenges facing our democracy.”

A further three Town Hall Debates have been scheduled and will include the key political parties contesting the elections in each region:

DURBAN: eNCA anchor Shahan Ramkissoon will host a debate at UKZN on Wednesday, 27 March at 7pm.

PORT ELIZABETH: eNCA’s political editor Vuyo Mvoko will host a debate at the Nangoza Jebe Hall (Centenary Hall) 11am on Thursday, 11 April.

JOHANNESBURG: eNCA’s acting editor Jeremy Maggs will host the final Big Leaders Debate at the Johannesburg city hall on Thursday, 25 April.
The Town Hall Debate Series will be broadcast on eNCA (DStv channel 403) and live streamed on eNCA.com.

Today’s debate will be broadcast in full from 7pm on eNCA.
