Africa News Network (ANN7) on DStv Channel 405 turns a year old on Thursday, 21 August 2014

MEDIA RELEASE:

The 24-hour news station Africa News Network (ANN7) on DStv Channel 405 turns a year old on Thursday, 21 August and it's taking its next evolutionary step.

ANN7 Prime news anchor Chantal Rutter Dros says the last year has seen the station grow significantly in a highly competitive market. She adds that a year down the line, “we are holding our own, creating an identity and pioneering new paths.”

“I believe our audience has grown over the past year because viewers see that we are impartial, creative and we have a pioneering spirit,” says Rutter Dros.

“We took significant strides during our coverage of Mandela's death, the Oscar Pistorius Trial and the elections and we're building on that.”

To commemorate the one year anniversary, the station's flagship prime time news programme,ANN7 Prime, has taken on a new look.

The new ANN7 Prime has evolved into a bumper packed two hours of breaking news, interviews, business, social media, sport and entertainment news. “It's pacier, digestible and interactive news for an audience that wants to be informed and entertained.”

A veteran in the news industry, Chantal Rutter Dros (@ChantalRutter) hosts the two hours with her trademark professional flare, interviewing the news makers of the day for up-to-date news, views and analysis.

Peter Stemmet (@PStemmet_ANN7) brings his singular brand of enthusiasm to the upgraded Prime Sports and continues to deliver action-packed sports news, but now from a state-of-the-art virtual set.

The engaging and witty Tirrin Cosway (@Tirrin), also a senior producer for ANN7 Prime, hosts the new addition to Prime - bite-sized chunks of business news with analysis of the markets and financial indicators. Cosway also presents the social media segment which reveals trending news.

The hypnotically beautiful Avashnee Vandiar (@AvashneeVandiar), herself an actor and professional dancer, shares trending videos and all the enticing snippets of local and international entertainment news, ending the bulletin on a lighter note.

This dynamic team is passionate about offering a prime news show that is informative, relevant and interactive and looks forward to growing from strength-to-strength with its valued audience.

ANN7 Prime airs Monday to Friday at 19:00 until 21:00 (Channel 405).
