IDOLS SA Top 5 Spectacular! Viewers Choice Performances

Press Release:                                         Top 5 Spectacular
                                 Starring Carly Rae Jepsen!

Billboard Music Award winner Carly Rae Jepsen is the special guest artist for this Sunday’s Idols SA Season 11 Top 5 Spectacular at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

The 29-year-old Canadian pop star originally got her first start in Idols as well, placing third in Season 5 of Canadian Idols in 2007. Since then she has gone on to dominate world charts with hit after hit, like 2011’s “Call Me Maybe”, and “I Really Like You” this year.

Jepsen kicks her South African tour off in Cape Town on 21 October and will also play Pretoria on 24 October before being the special Idols SA guest alongside the Season 11 Top 5 on Sunday.

The dual musical themes for the Top 5 this week are “How It Should Be Done” and “Viewers’ Choice”.

As always, even though the remaining contestants will be rehearsing hard all week long, not all of the Top 6 will get to perform on Sunday, as the one receiving the fewest votes this week will have to bid their Idols SA dream farewell again during the broadcast.

The remaining Top 5 will each perform two numbers. In the first round they will demonstrate how this year’s Wooden Mic contenders should have performed their songs, and in the second round they will sings songs suggested for them by the Idols SA fans on WeChat.

Little Miss Dynamite Dineo Moseki (22) from Vryburg will demonstrate how Golden Mic contender Barry de Sousa should have approached the Tracy Chapman classic “Baby Can I Hold You”, and for the second round, Idols SA fan “T@biâ” suggested the Etta James classic “All I Could Do Was Cry” for her.

24-year-old Karabo Mogane from Mbombela is performing Alicia Keys’s “I Keep On Falling”, which was massacred by Nofesane Bushula in the Season 11 auditions, and his fan favourite number is Ringo Madlingozi’s “Ekuseni”, suggested by Idols SA fan “Nqoh”.

Loyiso Gijana (16) from Uitenhage will be showing Golden Mic wannabe Nonelela Bashe how Zahara’s “Ndiza” should be done, and Idols SA fan Thimna Nobebe suggested Bob Marley’s “One Love” for his for the second round.

23-year-old Mmatema Moremi from Limpopo will do a proper interpretation of Mary Mary’s Gospel classic “I Can’t Give Up Now”, which was attempted by Ziyanda Stefane during the auditions phase, and Idols SA fan Tintswalo Faith’s choice of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” for the second round.

Rhema Varrie (21) from Alberton is taking on Bruno Mars’s “Billionaire” which Wooden Mic contender Gavin Msiza did in the auditions, and in the second round he performs the Percy Sledge classic “When a Man Loves a Woman”, for Idols SA fan Thuly Zondo.

And 24-year-old Siphelele Ngcobo from Inanda will rehabilitate John Legend’s “So High” after Palesa Khutsoane’s assassination attempt on it in the auditions, and his second round song is The Soil’s “Inkomo”, suggested for him by an Idols SA fan who goes by the handle of “Unathi-4-life”

Voting for the Top 5 will open during Sunday’s show and close at 22:00 on Tuesday, 27 October. All the Terms and Conditions for Idols SA Season 11 voting are explained on the Idols SA website at http://idolssa.dstv.com/article/how-to-vote-for-your-idol-20150830
