A COUP FOR THE MISS SOUTH AFRICA BRAND AS ONE FINALIST HAS THE CHANCE-IN-A-LIFETIME TO APPEAR IN THIS YEAR’S
WORLD SWIMSUIT EDITION

Press Release:

The Miss South Africa 2016 contestants will be taking part in a shoot for World Swimsuit South Africa later this month with one finalist earning a coveted place amongst the legendary World Swimsuit models in the pages of this year’s swimsuit edition with a four page spread and R20 000 in cash courtesy of Sun International and Cell C.

The winner will be announced during the Miss South Africa Pageant at Carnival City on Saturday, March 19, which will be broadcast live on M-Net and Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) in a two-hour not-to-be-missed spectacular.

The World Swimsuit South Africa shoot takes place in Cape Town on February 18 and 19 with acclaimed photographer Jacques Weyers.

The SA Swimsuit issue, a recognised brand within the modelling industry, was incorporated into the global World Swimsuit (WS) brand in 2014 and includes an international model search and a WS YouTube Channel. Netsport Media has helped launch some of the most recognised faces in the industry including Bar Refaeli, Xenia Deli, Sarah Stephens, Samantha Hoopes and Solveig Mõrk as well as some of South Africa’s biggest exports such as Candice Swanepoel, Genevieve Morton, Dominique Piek and Jessica Buchanan.

Says Sun International PR Manager Claudia Henkel: “This is a coup for the Miss South Africa brand and a huge opportunity for the 12 Miss South Africa finalists and the winner, who will get her own four-page spread.”

It is a view echoed by Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive at Cell C: “Appearing in World Swimsuit South Africa is  one of the most sought after opportunities in the modelling industry. It has propelled the modelling careers of many young women  that have been selected to participate. It will showcase this year’s Miss South Africa finalists as healthy role models for young women to aspire to.”

Says Aletha Carswell, co-founder of World Swimsuit South Africa and managing director of Netsport Media: “We love young women who are easy in their skin. We are not looking for perfection but prefer girls who are beautiful in a fresh, wholesome and effortless way. Our audience wants to relate to them, and it is important that women in particular identify with the models we choose – healthy looking, fit, curvaceous bodies contrary to the perception that all models must be skinny or rake thin.”

South African fashion photographer Jacques Weyers has collaborated with the World Swimsuit team since 2002, working with top swimsuit stars from Bar Rafaeli to Xenia Deli in some of the world’s most exotic beach locations and has become one of the most recognised international swimsuit photographers of his era.

Miss South Africa, presented by Sun International in collaboration with Cell C, takes place at Carnival City on Saturday, March 19, and will be televised from 17h00 to 19h00. Vuzu (DStv Channel 114) will air a live 30-minute red carpet event from 16h00 to 16h30.
Mzansi and Vuzu will feature inserts and interviews with the Top 12 finalists in the weeks leading up to the final event.

The 12 Miss South Africa 2016 finalists are Elizabeth Molapo (Bloemfontein, Free State); Felicia Muwayi (Nelspruit, Mpumalanga); Luyolo Mngonyama (Umtata, Eastern Cape); Marciel Hopkins (Paarl, Western Cape); Mikaela Oosthuizen (Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape); Ntandoyenkosi Kunene (Mkhondo, Mpumalanga); Reabetswe Sechoaro (Pretoria East, Gauteng); Ronette Chambers (Cape Town, Western Cape); Sarah Botes (Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng); Schané Venter (Alberton, Gauteng); Sharon-Rose Khumalo (Pretoria, Gauteng) and Tayla Skye Robinson (Roodepoort, Gauteng).
